BASEBALL
Chambersburg 16, Hamburg 1: The Trojans, who had been averaging 1.3 runs per game, scored 6 in a loss to Greencastle on Friday, then exploded for 14 hits and 16 runs in a non-league victory over Hamburg on Saturday afternoon.

Joey Diaz

Chambersburg (2-9) got home runs from Joey Diaz and Tyler Brechbiel and a quality start from Bryce Folmar for the win that snapped a six-game losing skid.

Diaz had a fine day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with four runs batted in. Nobody else had more than one hit, but Brandon Pattillo, Treyton Sarvis and Carter Fogal each had a pair of RBIs.

Gavin Mowery, Trevor Holden and Brady Deneen each hit a double, and Wyatt Kissel belted a triple.

The Trojans struck for six runs in the second inning, five in the third and five more in the fourth to end the game in four innings.

In the fourth, Brechbiel led off with his homer to left field. Later in the inning, Diaz smacked a three-run bomb, also to left.

Chambersburg got it going in the second inning when Diaz was hit by a pitch and went to third on a double by Deneen. Holden walked to load the bases and Folmar brought in the first run with a sacrifice fly.

Jake Folmar then walked and Pattillo was hit by a pitch, forcing in a run. Sarvis cracked a two-run single. Kissel then tripled to right to plate run No. 5 and he came home on a base hit by Fogal.

Folmar pitched all four innings, allowing four hits and one unearned run, walked none and struck out two.

SOFTBALL
Trojans are 2-0 in tournament: Chambersburg reached the championship game of the Big Spring Tournament on Saturday, but the game against Central York was halted by rain in the second inning with the Trojans ahead 1-0. It will be finished at a later date.

Karley Skultety

The Trojans (9-1) opened up with a 10-3 win over Dallastown, then blanked Big Spring 2-0 in a semifinal game.

“The girls got off the bus this morning with a lot of focus and energy,” Chambersburg coach Chris Skultety said. “We treated a really good (Dallastown) pitcher to a rude morning wakeup call, scoring eight runs early to set the tone.”

Chambersburg scored three runs in the first inning aided by a two-run home run by Sam Paetow. In a five-run second, Karley Skultety belted a grand slam.

Paetow was 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs and Skultety was 2-for-3, also hitting a double.

Kori Leedy pitched the first three innings to take the win, giving up 4 hits and a run with 6 strikeouts. Kylee Miller pitched three innings and did not allow an earned run, with 1 hit and 4 Ks.

Against Big Spring, Miller fired a 6-hit shutout, with 4 strikeouts.

Coach Skultety said, “We got the early lead (2 runs in the 1st inning) and Ky shut the door, as she usually does. We need to see more quality at-bats across the lineup, but we are playing some good softball now. At the halfway point, we’re right where we need to be. Now we have a big game (at Central Dauphin) on Monday.”

In the first inning, Karley Skultety (2-for-3) and Saleen Null (3-for-3) each drove in a run.
