The Greencastle-Antrim girls basketball team won the Franklin County Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday with a 42-10 win over Waynesboro.
WAYNESBORO — The quick and persistent defense of the Greencastle-Antrim girls basketball team was simply too much for Waynesboro to cope with Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Devils held the Maidens to just one point in the first half, taking a 23-1 lead, and cruised to a 42-10 victory in the championship game of the Franklin County Tip-Off Tournament at Waynesboro.
“Honestly, in the first half I thought we were a little sloppy on offense,” G-A coach Mike Rhine said. “We were struggling a little, but when I looked up it was 10-0. I just think there was a lot of energy and excitement the last two days.”
Blue Devil guard Haley Noblit poured in 18 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
“A lot of coaches would be happy to have one guard like her and Mia (Libby),” Rhine said, “and we’re fortunate to have two. And they defend so well, too.”
The Blue Devils (2-0) led 7-0 after the first period, then outscored the Maidens (1-1) 16-1 in the second.
Lauren Pool contributed 11 points for Greencastle, while Nikki Davis led Waynesboro with 3.
Rhine said, “We got what we thought we’d get — our top three players played well and we got contributions from a lot of others. I liked that three girls (Julia Herrmann, Meadow Gambacurta and Mary Murray) scored their first varsity points tonight.”
Pool was also named to the all-tournament team, as was the Maidens’ Davis.
