The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers inched closer to wrapping up the regular-season championship in the Mason Dixon Christian Conference by shutting out Shalom Christian 3-0 Thursday in boys soccer.
The game was scoreless until late in the first half when Mario Wiesman booted in a shot on an assist from Wyatt Pine, giving the Blazers the one-goal edge at the half.
“Wyatt and Mario had another strong game,” Blazers coach Stan Hott said. “Their combo is tough for any team to defend. They seem to always know what the other is thinking.”
The Blazers (15-1, 9-1 MDCC) padded their lead in the second half when Josh Rowe scored on penalty kicks after blatant takedowns in the penalty area. The Blazer defense then stifled Shalom (7-4 MDCC) the rest of the way.
“The boys came out ready to play,” Hott said. “When Max (Crawford) shows up, he can be the difference maker, and tonight he was on. He played the defensive mid with Josh, and they kept the other team from touching the ball.”
Goalkeeper Gabe Beckering made 21 saves in registering the shutout for the Blazers, who held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.
The Blazers can wrap up the regular-season title with a win at home today against Grace Academy.
