Trinity 5, Greencastle-Antrim 2: Trinity broke up a 2-2 tie by scoring three times in the fifth inning Friday afternoon and halted the Blue Devils’ five-game winning streak with a non-league victory.
The Shamrocks (4-3) went ahead 2-0 in the second inning, but Greencastle (7-2) tied it up with two runs in the fourth on RBIs by Brady Diller and Aidan Grudzinski.
But that’s all they could manage against Trinity starter Ethan Pfeffer, who allowed only three hits and struck out six in six innings. Josh McCombs pitched the final inning.
For G-A, Adam Horst pitched the first 3 1/3 innings, and Connor Rohm pitched 2 2/3 and absorbed the loss. Logan Layton and Caiden Smith had the other hits for the Blue Devils.
SOFTBALL
Shippensburg 15, Greencastle-Antrim 3: The Greyhounds led only 5-3 after five innings, but scored 10 more in the last two innings to finish off the Blue Devils in a Mid Penn Colonial game Friday afternoon.
Greencastle is now 3-3 (3-3 MPC); Shippensburg is 4-2.
For the Blue Devils, Adrianna Beeler was 3-for-3 and Makayla Jerin had two hits in three at-bats, including a double. Beeler also drove in two runs.
For Shippensburg, Kayla Altizer and Ally Thrush each had two hits and three runs batted in, and Gracie Johnson, Elena Worthington and winning pitcher Cierra Bender each had a pair of hits, including a double for Thrush.
