Despite 4 errors and a 5 run deficit after 2 innings the James Buchanan Lady Rocket softball team rallied for another victory.

Big Spring took advantage of fielding miscues early to build a 6-1, but the Lady Rockets slowly fought their way back and used a 3-run seventh inning to pull out a 10-8 come-from-behind win Tuesday in a Mid Penn Colonial Division game.

“We started out flat and our defense did not play well,” JB coach Troy Pittman said. “Jenna (Mongold) started, but the defense gave up 6 unearned runs. Lizzie (Pittman) came in and pitched well. She kept Big Spring off balance. She held them down as we started the comeback. This was a good team win.”

Pittman scattered 4 hits and struck out 4 over the final 5 innings to earn the victory.

JB (5-1, 3-1 MPC) scored 3 runs in the third to make it 6-4. Mongold ripped a double to bring in 2 runs. Mongold struck again in the fourth, again hitting a 2-run double to tie the score at 6-6.

Maddie Bailey put JB ahead 7-6 in sixth inning when she and Mongold pulled off a double steal.

Big Spring came back with 2 runs of its own in the bottom of the sixth to retake an 8-7 lead.

The Lady Rockets rallied one more time in the top of the seventh and this time held the lead. Kate Ebersole delivered an RBI single, Maria Burkett scored on a passed ball and Lindsey Meyers plated a run with an RBI ground out.

“Our hitting around and we scored enough to win,” Troy Pittman said. “Grace (Amsley) did a good job working counts for walks and starting rallies.”

Alyssa Blair, Kirstyn Atheron and Mongold each had 2 hits.
