SOFTBALL
Chambersburg 12, State College 2: The Trojans got a clutch emergency pitching performance from Erin Pattillo and a six-run first inning put them on their way to a Mid Penn Commonwealth win over the Little Lions.

“With as many pitches as Mack (Mackenzie Stake) threw yesterday, we wanted to use her only if she was needed to come in and close the door,” Chambersburg coach Chris Skultety said. “But our starting pitcher went home sick 30 minutes before the bus left, so we had to scramble to get Erin from the JV team.

“She did a great job and we gave her a six-run lead to work with. She gave up one run on four hits in four innings to a team that scored 17 the day before.”

Kara Neidigh allowed one run and a hit in her one inning of work to close out the five-inning game for Chambersburg (2-0, 2-0 MPC).

Skultety said, “Offensively we did a much better job of waiting on our pitches and working counts today. We had 10 hits and six walks.”

Taylor Myers was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two stolen bases, Haiden Brookens went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs and Alyssa Wenger was also 2-for-3.

“We showed what it takes to be successful and how you always have to be ready no matter what,” Skultety said.

Max Armstrong had a big day at the plate for the Trojans, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and three runs knocked in. Aaden Newman was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a pair of walks.

Mason Yeager went the first five innings and suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs. Hunter Stevens pitched two hitless innings to finish up.
