PIAA basketball, wrestling pairings announced

Sunday was a busy day for the PIAA, with pairings for basketball and wrestling tournaments announced.

In boys basketball, in a first-round game of the boys Class 6A tourney, Chambersburg will face Butler on Saturday at 4:30 at Canon-McMillan H.S. in Canonsburg.

The Mid Penn champion Trojans (20-7) finished fourth in District 3 after a 53-51 overtime loss to Wilson on Thursday.

They will play Butler (20-5), which was the WPIAL (District 7) runner-up after losing 62-57 to Mt. Lebanon on Saturday night. The Golden Tornado are led by junior star Ethan Morton, a 6-foot-6 point guard who averages 28 points per game and has been offered Div. I scholarships by multiple high-level schools.

In Class 3A wrestling, seven Franklin County athletes will begin the PIAA Championships on Thursday. The preliminary round begins at 4 p.m., followed by the first round. Quarterfinals are at 2:15 Friday, semifinals at 9 a.m. Saturday and the finals are Saturday night.
