HOLLAND — No. 1 seed Luke Nichter of Chambersburg won a pair of bouts by pin Saturday to advance to Sunday morning’s semifinals of the elite Escape the Rock Tournament at Council Rock South.
Nichter had a bye in the first round at 170 pounds, then pinned Kevin Pandorf of Kingsway, N.J. in 1:02. In the quarterfinals, Nichter zoomed to a 10-0 lead before pinning Seamus Selmi of St. John’s College H.S.
In the semifinals, Nichter will face No. 4 seed Leonard Pinto of Stroudsburg.
Two other Trojan wrestlers made it to the second day — Tate Nichter at 145 and Wyatt Hull at 220.
Tate Nichter scored a pin in 49 seconds, then earned a 5-2 win over Darnai Heard of Cincinnati LaSalle. In the quarterfinals, he was defeated by returning PIAA champion Ryan Anderson of Bethlehem Catholic, 7-1, giving up a takedown in the first period and a nearfall in the second.
Hull opened with an 11-2 major decision, then dropped his next match, 5-0, to Flynn Leaf of Paulsboro, N.J. In the consolations, Hull notched a pin in just 22 seconds, then held on for a 10-8 decision.
In that bout, against Dylan Ruiz of Osceola, Fla., Hull took a 6-0 lead after two periods, but had to withstand four takedowns by Ruiz in the third period to survive.
In the consolations Sunday, Tate Nichter and Hull each need one win to earn a place. Nichter faces A.J. Tamburrino of William Tennent and Hull takes on Sean Horner of Kingsway.
Also for the Trojans, Anthony Colangelo (120) and Guy Lozius (195) each went 2-2 in the event, and Kelby Mixell (132), Seth Runshaw (152) and Zae Kirk (182) all went 1-2.
Chambersburg is tied for 18th in the 47-team event.
