Joey Fuller holds the new Route 30 Rumble belt

SPRING GROVE — Chambersburg and Spring Grove, typically one of the top wrestling teams in District 3, teamed up for the first Route 30 Rumble on Saturday night and the Trojans came home with the new traveling belt.

Trojan coach Matt Mentzer said, “Spring Grove did a really nice job with it. They hired a DJ and had multiple spotlights and cameras and put it online live. Even in the youth match, they introduced all the kids and had the spotlights on. It was fun.”

It didn’t hurt that Chambersburg, now 11-1, rolled to a 52-19 win in the varsity match.

While the Trojans had all but one of its starters, the Rockets were missing starters at 106, 152 and 170 and forfeited three bouts.

After being out for two weeks, Spencer Runshaw returned to the lineup and won 10-6 in the meet’s first match at 138.

“It was great to have Spencer back, and he went the full six minutes,” Mentzer said. “Since it was the first match, he kind of set the tone for the team.”

Mentzer also said Guy Lozius (195) and Joey Fuller (285) had key wins.

“Guy beat a decent kid (Eric Glass), who was seventh at Trojan Wars,” Mentzer said. “Guy was aggressive and wore him out, getting six takedowns (in a 13-6 win). Joey had a solid heavyweight with a good record (Seth Worley). They got into a flurry and Joey caught him off-balance, took him to his back and secured a pin in about a minute.”

Wyatt Hull (220) and Karl Shindledecker (120) also had pins for Chambersburg, while Carson Mello (182) and Cole Grove (126) had technical falls.
