The James Buchanan Lady Rockets let a big lead slip away, but hit some key free throws down the stretch to pull away for a 40-33 win over Waynesboro on Tuesday in a Mid Penn Colonial Division girls basketball game.
JB (5-4) led 17-7 at halftime after holding the Maidens scoreless in the second quarter. Waynesboro fought back in the third quarter and actually tied the game in the fourth quarter. The Lady Rockets regrouped and hit 10 of 16 fouls shots to reclaim the lead and pull out the victory.
“We came out sluggish in the third quarter,” JB coach Jenny Lauthers said. “We had to fight for everything we got in this game.”
Cass Martin led JB with 19 points and Carly Sollenberger added 11. Abby Sheasley led Waynesboro with 8 points.
