CHAMBERSBURG — The gang was all there for Chambersburg, and what a difference it made.

The Trojans welcomed back previously injured Terell Williams and Ethan Shreffler to the lineup for Wednesday’s Mid Penn Commonwealth boys basketball game against Carlisle at CASHS Field House and they were a big factor in a 56-44 victory over the Thundering Herd.

Williams banked in a 3-pointer on his first shot and scored 12 points. Shreffler was 4-for-6 from 3-point range to contribute 14 points.

“It’s great to have everybody back,” said Tyler Collier, who scored 14 points in the win. “We still have things to work on, but we’re fortunate and happy to have a full roster.”

Trojan coach Shawn Shreffler said, “They’ve officially had one day of practice each, but they’ve been able to do things with conditioning and shooting. They’re not in game shape yet, but it’s great to have them back.”

Carlisle (2-4, 1-3 MPC) led 11-8 late in the first period thanks to a trio of 3-pointers, two from Clay Burkett, but Chambersburg (4-2, 2-1 MPC) then went on an extended 14-2 run to bolt to a 22-13 advantage and the Herd never held the lead again.

Ethan Shreffler had five points during that run and Williams ended it with a three.

Meanwhile, the Trojan defense limited Carlisle to six points in the second quarter, and Chambersburg led 26-17 at the break.

Coach Shreffler said, “I thought our defense was pretty good. In the first half, we made them very perimeter-oriented, although in the second half they got in the paint more. We held Howie (Rankine) to just four points and he can really fill it up.”

Carlisle got to within four points at 36-32 late in the third quarter on the fourth basket of the period by James Barlow (11 points total), but Collier drove for a basket, Max Doctor hit a jumper and Ty Holsopple opened the fourth with a layup to make it 42-32.

The Herd cut the lead to six points twice, but Collier took a slick pass from Seth Brouse and dunked, and then with 3:20 left, he drove for another hoop to seal the win.

“Carlisle played (a 3-2) zone and took away the paint,” Collier said. “But we have more threats now on offense, so everybody should be able to get more open shots.”

Shreffler said, “We were patient against the zone and worked the ball well. A couple of times, we had pass, pass, pass and then got it to Tyler inside. He did well once we adjusted to the zone.”

The Trojans travel to play Central Dauphin (5-0, 3-0 MPC) on Friday.
