MARTINSBURG, W.Va. – The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers held Faith Christian to two points in the first half and went on to take a 33-16 victory Tuesday in a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference girls basketball game.
The Blazers (4-0, 2-0 MDCC) kept Faith without a basket until late in the first quarter and then shut out the Falcons in the second quarter as they rolled to a 21-2 halftime lead.
“I really think that was our best game defensively all season and we held them to two points in the first half and forced 24 turnovers for the game,” Blazers coach Dylan Ward said. “We just made them very uncomfortable on the offensive end of the floor, which was our goal.”
Laurel Reitz led the Blazers in scoring with 10 points. After that, the scoring was pretty well spread out: Amber Yanosik with seven points, Kyleigh Teal with six, Mariah Peck with three, Jalen Moats, Mollee Stake and Mackenzie Sites with two apiece, and Maddie Eberly with one.
Other stat leaders were Teal and Stake with eight rebounds each, Teal with three assists, Yanosik with six steals and Sarah Vandersleen with two blocked shots.
