Football: JB at Northern Bedford

Football seasons always seem better when they can be ended with a win.

The James Buchanan Rockets will try to put a positive finish to their 2018 campaign Friday night.

The Rockets travel to Loysburg to face the Northern Bedford Panthers in a non-league season finale for both teams.

JB (4-5), which lost 41-17 to Brunswick last week, will attempt to have its first non-losing season since 1995.

“We’ve told the players all week they deserve to be the team to end the streak of losing seasons,” JB coach David Miller said. “The seniors and juniors especially deserve it.”

Standing in the way are the defending District 5 Class A champion Panthers, who come into the game 4-6 after beating Glendale 20-7 last week.

“They are a very young team,” Miller said. “They start a lot of sophomores. They are not the biggest team we’ve seen, but they will come after you.”

Rocket RB Cormac Houpt will look to continue to add to his record-setting season. Houpt has rushed for a single-season school record 1,364 yards and 16 TDs.

JB signal caller Sebastian Wise will also try to continue his solid season. Wise has thrown for 1,114 yards and 12 TDs. His top targets are Brady Bigler (19 catches, 420 yds, 5 TDs) and Owen Stoner (18-299-2).

Top defensive players for the Rockets are Scott Seburn (83 tackles), Caleb Wise (75), Sawyer Egolf (74), Logan Spoonhour (56, 5 sacks) and Bigler (3 INTs).
