LANCASTER — James Buchanan shocked No. 3 seed Lancaster Catholic on Saturday evening in a District 3 Class 2A quarterfinal girls soccer playoff game.
The Rockets were the No. 6 seed and the Crusaders (17-2-1) were the No. 3 seed playing at home. But JB held Lancaster Catholic to a 0-0 tie through regulation and two overtime periods, then won a marathon set of penalty kicks, 10-9.
For James Buchanan (10-6-3), the road gets even tougher in the semifinals on Wednesday (time and place to be determined) when it meets No. 2 seed Elco (18-0-1), which defeated Pequea Valley 7-0 Saturday.
