Blazers top Shalom for 3rd place

HAGERSTOWN, Md. – The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Shalom Christian 3-2 on Saturday in the Mason-Dixon Christian Conference girls volleyball tournament consolation game at North Hagerstown High School.

“This was a very exciting and well played match from both teams,” Blazers coach Carole Rosenberry said. “A well-deserved win.”

The Blazers (19-5) lost the first game in overtime 28-26 but came back to tie the match with a 25-14 victory. Shalom took the third game 25-18.

On the verge of elimination, the Blazers battled to take an overtime victory in the fourth game, 27-25. They then survived a tense fifth game with a tight 15-13 victory.

For the Blazers, Mackenzie Householder had 31 assists, 5 digs and 3 aces; Tahra Kennedy had 12 kills, 4 aces and 3 blocks; Hunter Timmons 7 kills, 5 digs, 2 aces and 6 blocks; Taylor Heck 6 assists; Emilee Beam 20 kills, 11 digs and 2 aces; Kaitlin Provard 3 kills and 2 blocks; Ryleigh Timmons 12 digs and 3 aces; Isabel Beard 8 digs; Kerri Potteiger  7 digs; and Niki Schussler 2 digs.

The Blazers won the MDCC regular-season championship before finishing third in the tournament. They are traveling to Tennessee to play in the National Association of Christian Athletes (NACA) season-ending tournament Wednesday through Friday.
