Chambersburg 2, Northern York 0: The Trojans got back over the .500 mark by blanking the Polar Bears on Monday afternoon in a non-league game.
“This was the first clean sheet (shutout) we’ve had all season,” Chambersburg coach Ed Franchi said. “That was nice, because we had to start a freshman (Whitney Dorcely) in goal because of injuries. She played well, coming off her line when she needed and communicating well.”
Gabby Lecuona provided the offense, knocking in goals in the 34th and 72nd minutes. Brooks Huntsman assisted on the first, and Hana Bellows.
The Trojans (7-6) led in shots, 10-7 and and corner kicks, 2-0.
Franchi said, “It was good to see Gabby score a couple of goals — she had two Saturday, too — since she was sick last week. I really liked the energy and desire to win that the girls came out with today.”
Terrell Samuels
BOYS SOCCER
Chambersburg 6, Altoona 2: The Trojans improved to 9-3-1 with a non-league win over the Mountain Lions in the first of a four-game week, rallying from a 1-0 halftime deficit.
Defender Terrell Samuels had not yet scored this season, but he netted three goals Monday. Tyler Luther, Tanner Luther and Aaron Maynard also scored goals, while Tyler Luther (2), Brady Geyer, Garrick Hill and Tanner Luther picked up assists.
The Trojans (9-3-1) out-shot Altoona 26-7.
“We gave up a penalty kick in the first five minutes and they did a nice job defensively,” Chambersburg coach Corey Grove said. “We were playing well; it was just a matter of time before we put one in — we just had to be persistent. And we got three in the first 10 minutes of the second half. I was proud of how we responded.
“It has been important to keep a rotation of players because of our schedule (6 games in 10 days), and tomorrow and Thursday are both away, too.”
