The Forbes Road Cardinal Field Hockey Team (12-1) took to the road Thursday evening to play the Southern Huntingdon Rockets for a night game on their football field.  Pre-game ceremonies were held to honor the Senior Rocket players.

The Cardinals started off strong earning a series of penalty corners right away.  Early attempts at goal were thwarted by Brittany McMullen, Southern’s keeper.  The Cardinals continued to hammer away with Mara Broadwater capitalizing on a free hit play set up by center halfback Brianna Waters just under 5 minutes in.  Madison Hays would be the next to score two minutes later on a cross cage ball sent to her by Broadwater.  Quincy McMath tallied the next two goals.  One on a rebounded ball off McMullen’s pads and the other on a pass from Hays. Broadwater would strike for the second time on another free hit play, this one sent to her by midfield Shelby Harnish.  Sierra Everhart finalized the scoring for the first half on an assist from McMath.  The score after the first 30 minutes of play was 6-0.

The second half would start off much like the first with the Cardinals attacking away in the circle. Ten minutes in, due to a goalie infraction, the Cardinals were awarded a penalty stroke.  Hailey Dodson launched her picture perfect shot past the goalie and right into the back left corner of the cage. Madison Hays scored her second goal of the match during a scramble in front of the cage to finalize the score for the night at 8-0. The Rockets displayed some scoring potential earning six penalty corners in the second half.  All those attempts were denied by Cardinal defenders and senior goalie Zoe Cutchall.
