CARLISLE — Greencastle-Antrim junior Taryn Parks survived a watery fall to capture first place in the girls Challenge Race at the Carlisle Invitational on Saturday.
The Herd’s course, thanks to all of the recent rain, had several places in which the runners had to get through what amounted to a stream of water. Parks was leading when she fell in one of the water hazards and dropped behind Jenna Mulhern of West Chester Henderson.
But Parks gradually reeled her in and used a strong kick to pass Mulhern in the final stretch to win by one second, 17:59 to 18:00.
The Chambersburg boys finished 13th in the team standings. Trent Overcash led the way with a time of 16:29 to place 19th.
Other Trojan placers were Brayden Boyd (80th, 17:23), Joe Corwell (91st, 17:30), Orion Kimberly (92nd, 17:30) and Justin Maxwell (120th, 17:91). Also, Shippensburg’s Elijah Shively was 112th in 17:38 and teammate Elias Spence was 117th in 17:39.
For the Chambersburg girls, who finished 30th, scorers were Anna DeGrange (114th, 21:17), Allie List (148th, 21:54), Olivia Rieck (153rd, 22:03), Amelya Mauriello (170th, 22:21) and Maddie Kinton (189th, 22:59).
