Waterfall, Pa. – Despite dreary skies and a second half of drizzle, the Forbes Road field hockey team (3-0, 1-0 Keystone League) had a productive day on the field today in their first home game of the season.  They took on their Keystone League rivals, the Rockets, from Southern Huntingdon County.

Payton Kendall placed the strong attack of the Cardinals on the scoreboard early with her goal, assisted by Shelby Harnish, at around the four minute mark.  Quincy McMath followed up shortly with 2 goals.  One on a rebound off the goalie pads and one on a hard direct shot.  Midfielder Hailey Dodson rounded out the Cardinal’s scoring for the first half with her goal 27 minutes in.

Another midfielder for Forbes, Madison Hays, found the cage at the start of the second half on a pass from Harlie Strait.  Strait, just minutes later, scored on a perfectly executed penalty corner play sent to her by Harnish.  Forward Mara Broadwater sent the final ball over the line for the Cardinals to finish up the scoring for the day midway through the half.

Senior Rocket goalie, Brittany McMullen–despite the slippery cage condition–had a very respectable 35 saves against the strong attack she faced.

Game statistics:

Shots on goal:  FR 42, SHC 0

Penalty Corners:  FR 22, SHC 0

Goalkeeper saves:  FR 0 (Cutchall), SHC 35 (McMullen)

Forbes Road is back at it again at home against East Juniata tomorrow at 4 pm.
