Hempfield 1, Chambersburg 0: The Black Knights, who beat the Trojans in the District 3 playoffs last year, came to Trojan Stadium and left with a 1-0 non-league victory Thursday evening.
Hempfield got the game’s only goal on a penalty kick in the 30th minute.
Chambersburg coach Corey Grove said, “Hempfield is definitely a championship quality team. Last season they had the chance to win a state title, so we knew it was going to be a battle. I thought we did a great job tonight, but just couldn’t find the final ball to put in the back of the net.
“Competing with teams like Hempfield day in and day out is what we want if we want to win championships at Chambersburg, and we did that tonight. Unfortunately, we came up short, but we will take this and build. Monday doesn’t get any easier with Lower Dauphin (two-time defending state champion).”
The Black Knights had a 9-8 edge in shots and a 5-4 advantage in corers. Goalkeeper Noah Smith made five saves for the Trojans (2-1).
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
State College 3, Chambersburg 0: The Trojans dropped a Mid Penn Commonwealth contest to the Little Lions, with scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-23.
“We actually didn’t play too bad, but they’re real solid, unfortunately,” Trojan coach Ty Frelin said. “It naturally it hurts not having Ashley (Adams) available, but she’s moving along and hopefully she’ll be back soon.”
