WAYNESBORO — Chambersburg picked up where it left off in Mid Penn Colonial Division golf on Monday, capturing the first match of the season, at Waynesboro Country Club, by 33 strokes over the host Indians.
Karsen Rush shot a 2-over par 74 to pace the Trojans, and Mary Kate Norcross was right behind with a 75. Grayson Hopple took fourth with an 84, Jacob Carlin fired an 87 to tie for fifth and Spencer Rajtik was ninth with an 89.
“Mary Kay played really well; her 75 was a real solid round,” Trojan coach Mark Yost said. “She had several birdies, but did have one double bogey. Karsen hit the ball all over the place, but still scored a 74.
“The big positive was Jacob, who probably played his career best round.”
Waynesboro’s Devin Smith earned medalist honors by firing a 2-under par 70 on his home course. Caleb Reath of James Buchanan shot 87 to tie for fifth. Greencastle-Antrim’s top boys scorer was Connor Ambeault, with a 98.
For the girls, Ella Lowry of ‘Boro shot 90 to tie for 10th, while G-A’s Amanda Steier was next with a 93. Chambersburg’s Heathehr Sanbower (98) and Megan Brandt (99) also broke the century mark.

GIRLS TENNIS
Chambersburg 4, Mechanicsburg 1: The Trojans won at No. 2 and 3 singles and both doubles matches in dominating fashion to begin their season with a non-league victory over the Wildcats.
Madison Mellinger won at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0, and Caroline Hance followed at No. 3, taking sets of 6-1, 6-0.
At No. 1 doubles, Alexis Parra and Cally Papoutsis captured a 6-2, 6-0 win, and Julianne Grove and Sarah Guare rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
At No. 1 singles, Hope Sprecher was defeated 6-4, 6-1. But she and Mellinger won the district doubles match, 8-1.
Chambersburg coach Josh Barwin, who won in his debut, said, “All four matches we won were in straight sets, and Hope suffered a tough loss in her first match at No. 1. We’re hoping to keep this momentum going into our next match vs. Lower Dauphin (Wednesday).”
