Wednesday was the cutoff date for games to count toward the District 3 power rankings in baseball and softball. As of that time, six Franklin County teams — 4 in softball and 2 in baseball — have unofficially qualified for the District 3 playoffs.
District 3 is expected to announce the official pairings before the weekend, so until then, the following pairings are speculation based on the current rankings.
In baseball, Chambersburg made it in Class 6A by winning its final 5 games. The Trojans (11-8) are the No. 9 seed and will play a first-round game at No. 9 McCaskey (12-8) on Monday, May 21.
Waynesboro (14-5) gained the No. 10 seed and will play at No. 7 Palmyra (16-4) on Monday in the first round.
In softball, a pair of area teams made it into the Class 6A tournament. Chambersburg (14-7) is No. 7 and will host No. 10 Cumberland Valley (9-8) on Tuesday, May 22 in the first round. Waynesboro (13-5) comes in at No. 8, and will host No. 9 Hempfield (12-8) on Tuesday.
In Class 5A, Shippensburg (15-4) will host No. 12 Manheim Central (14-6) in a Tuesday first-rounder, while in Class 4A, James Buchanan (13-5) also earned a No. 5 seed and receives a bye Tuesday. The Rockets will face No. 4 West Perry (17-3) in a quarterfinal on Thursday.
Quarterfinals in baseball and softball are scheduled for Thursday, May 24.
