BASEBALL
Chambersburg 5, Greencastle-Antrim 4: The Trojans scored four runs in the fourth inning and Spencer Hockensmith had a big day in a 5-4 non-league win over Greencastle at Greene Township Park on Monday afternoon.
Hockensmith went 2-for-3 for Chambersburg (7-8). He tripled in the team’s first run, then finished off the big fourth inning with a two-run single. The other runs scored on a fielder’s choice grounder by Elijah Snyder and a Blue Devil error.
Greencastle (9-7) took an early 3-0 lead thanks to Nathan Starliper, who tripled in a pair of runs in the first inning, and later hit an RBI double.
Starliper finished 3-for-4, and Tanner Rock, the losing pitcher, also had a 3-for-4 day, with a double.
Austin Kopp pitched the first 5 innings for the Trojans to gain the win. He allowed 6 hits and struck out 7. Kaden Hoover earned a save by throwing the final 2 innings, giving up a couple of hits and fanning 2.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Chambersburg 3, New Oxford 0: The Trojans won by scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-20 to finish their regular season with a 9-7 record.
The top 14 teams in District 3 Class AAA qualify for the playoffs, and Chambersburg is currently No. 14. The cutoff date is Friday and the first round of the tournament is May 17.
Leading the Trojans were Will Simmers (14 kills, 2 blocks), Josiah Picard (12 kills, 10 digs, 1 ace and Wes Newman (15 digs, 1 ace).
“We also had some younger players step in and get some valuable varsity experience,” Trojan coach Paul Schlabach. “Overall, it was a good way to end the regular season. Now we move on to preparing for the district playoffs.
BOYS LACROSSE
Trinity 12, Chambersburg 4: The Trojans dropped to 5-10 (2-4 MPC Commonwealth) with a loss to a strong Trinity team Monday. The Shamrocks outscored Chambersburg 7-2 in the second half.
Thomas Elia scored two goals for the Trojans, and Haden Ocker and Jace Hopple neted one each. Riley Ocker had an assist.
Pierre Alcegaire picked up 9 ground balls, and Jarrett Secrist made 8 saves in goal.
New Oxford 13, Chambersburg 10: The Trojans led 7-4 at halftime Saturday, but were victimized by a Colonial comeback helped by some penalties that had Chambersburg playing short-handed.
Brandin Cosey, Haden Ocker and Zach Smith each had 2 goals for the Trojans, while Riley Ocker, Aiden Brechbill, Thomas Elia and Jace Hopple each had one. Eliz made 3 assists, and Riley Ocker, Haden Ocker and Hopple each had one.
Nash Bothe was 13-for-26 on faceoffs and goalie Jarrett Secrist made 9 saves.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Trinity 23, Chambersburg 16: The Trojans gave up a season-high 23 goals and fell to the Shamrocks by 7 goals on Monday night. Chambersburg is 5-8 (0-5 MPC Commonwealth).
