BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Central York 3, Chambersburg 1: The Trojans captured the first game 25-18, but the Panthers came back to take the final three, 25-18, 25-22 and 25-16.
“We played a really good team tonight, and we are able to frustrate them at times,” Chambersburg coach Paul Schlabach said. “Unfortunately, their experience in clutch moments came through and they were able to pull out a victory.”
Josiah Picard led the Trojans (7-7) with 9 kills and 2 aces. Steve Swain had 8 kills and Ty Holsopple added 7. Kellan Stepler (8) and Wes Newman (7) led in digs, and Will Simmers contributed 4 blocks.
Schlabach said, “Holsopple had an extremely efficient hitting night. Good teams find a way to scrap out games when they aren’t playing their best, and we were unable to do that tonight against a very good team.”
GIRLS LACROSSE
Northern York 14, Chambersburg 10: The Trojans had a little bit of a letdown early in the second half that enabled the Polar Bears to gain control of the game. Northern led 7-6 at halftime, but scored 4 straight for an 11-6 advantage.
“We lost repeated draw control possessions that resulted in four unanswered goals within the first four minutes of the second half,” Chambersburg assistant coach Rachel Cross said. “Despite an otherwise strong performance by our defense, we were unable to close the gap.”
Hannah Raines scored 5 goals and had an assist, Rachel Dusman had 5 goals, and MacKenzie Miller had an assist. Micaela Champion made 15 saves in goal for the Trojans (5-7, 0-4 MPC).
