Five players cracked the scoring column as the Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers defeated Calvary Christian 6-0 Thursday in a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference girls soccer game.
“We played our best game of the year against a severely depleted Calvary squad,” CVCS coach Paul Lundy said. “They played the entire match with only ten players due to an injury earlier in the week. Calvary never quit or gave up. They fought us as tough as they could for the entire 80 minutes.”
Kaitlin Provard scored two goals for the Blazers, including the first goal only a minute and a half into the game. Taylor Heck, Hunter Timmons and Provard scored to give the Blazers (6-2, 5-2 MDCC) a 4-0 halftime lead. Isabel Beard and Brylee Moats scored second-half goals. Maddie Eberly contributed a pair of assists, while Provard, Laurel Reitz and Jalen Moats each added an assist.
“Our passing was crisp and we were looking to put combinations together,” Lundy said. “The two quick goals allowed us to play our entire roster and get the younger players some valuable playing time. Brylee Moats is blossoming into a strong player at several positions. We also got two assists from Maddie Eberly and one from Laurel Reitz. Both of those players are emerging as very consistent contributors. Our scoreless streak is now at five consecutive halves thanks to stellar defense by Sophie Bland and Hunter Timmons along with our keeper Jalen Moats.”
