Long ball was the name of the game for the James Buchanan Lady Rockets Tuesday afternoon.

Powered by a whopping 7 home runs, yes 7, the Lady Rockets knocked off Waynesboro 13-3 in 5 innings Tuesday in a Mid Penn Colonial Division softball game.

Alyssa Blair opened the top of the first for JB (4-1, 3-1 MPC) with a solo shot. Two batters later Jenna Mongold drilled another solo homer. In the third, Paige Doyle ripped a 2-run homer and Carly Caron followed with another solo round tripper. In the decisive 6-run fifth inning the Rockets went back-to-back-to-back, all with 2 outs, to put the game out of reach. Krystin Nichols jacked a 3-run homer and Kate Ebersole and Blair each followed with solo home runs. Mongold and Ebersole each finished with 3 hits while Nichols and Doyle each had 3 RBI. Mongold earned the victory, scattering 3 hits and striking out 6.

“It was a special game to watch,” JB coach Troy Pittman said. “The girls swung the bats extremely well and defensively Carly Caron made a nice diving catch in the outfield. Waynesboro is a solid team. We played well and hopefully we can keep it up as the weather hopefully warms up.”

For Waynesboro (7-2, 3-2 MPC), Mackenzie Miller hit a 3-run homer.
