The Courtney Coy era is over so the Shippensburg Greyhounds need junior Emily Wenner to step into the circle and provide some solid pitching that will allow one of the most potent offense to drive in runs.
Shippensburg (15-7) lost to Lower Dauphin 5-4 in the consolation semi-finals last year, one win short of qualifying for the PIAA field. Mike Peters’ squad finished second in the Mid-Penn Colonial division and will look to move into that top spot this season.
Senior Baille Jones (1b), junior Amber Orndorff (of), and Wenner all batted over.400 last season and Sami Barmont (ss) batted just under.400 so the hitters are there. Defense and pitching will determine how far this team will go.
Other returnees from last year include senior Morgan Fetter (c), junior Zoe Holtry (2b), junior Halle Zullinger (of) and junior Rachel Kline (3b).
Wenner went 5-1 with a 2.19 ERA so the ability is there for continued success.
Shippensburg opens their season on April 3rd when they host Waynesboro. All four Franklin County schools finished at .500 or better and all return significant portions of their rosters so the Colonial Division with Big Spring and Boiling Springs should be competitive.
