Nichter takes 2nd, Forrester 4th at states

HERSHEY — Two Franklin County wrestlers brought home medals from the PIAA Wrestling Championships, which concluded Saturday night at Giant Center.

Chambersburg sophomore Luke Nichter wrestled in the championship match at 170 pounds and was defeated 11-5 by defending champion Trent Hidlay of Mifflin County.

Cole Forrester, a senior from Shippensburg, ended up placing fourth after dropping a 5-4 decision in ultimate tiebreaker to Greg Bensley of Pocono Mountain West.

The powerful Hidlay (43-0), a North Carolina State recruit, took Nichter down five times, all with virtually the same move, while all of Nichter’s scoring came on escapes. It was an improvement from a year ago when Hidlay scored a technical fall over Nichter in the quarterfinals.

Nichter finished with a 38-7 record.

Forrester finished with a 37-2 record. In the match against Bensley, he took a 3-1 lead with a takedown in the third period, but Bensley evened the score with a reversal with just 0:05 left.

In the first rideout period, Bensley gained an escape. In the second, Forrester was able to tie the bout when Bensley lost a point for technical violation with 0:01 remaining. But in the ultimate tiebreaker, Bensley was able to score an escape to win 5-4.
